Orthokeratology
Specially designed contact lenses reshape corneas to improve vision
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) is a non-surgical procedure to improve vision. Specially designed contact lenses gently reshape the curvature of the corneas (clear dome of tissue that covers the colored part of the eye) during sleep. The treatment can correct myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia (blurred near vision). And studies show that Ortho-K lenses can help slow the progression of myopia in children. When successful, patients experience clear vision during the day without contact lenses or eyeglasses. Patients continue to wear the lenses at night to maintain optimum results.
Scleral lenses
Large contact lenses treat a variety of eye conditions
Scleral lenses are large diameter rigid gas permeable lenses designed to treat a variety of eye conditions, many of which do not respond to other forms of treatment.
They are termed “scleral” lenses because they completely cover the cornea (the clear dome of tissue that covers the colored part of the eye) and extend onto the sclera (the white part of the eye that forms the outer wall of the eye).
